The Hockey Loft is excited to introduce our newly remodeled shooting clinics. There are three tiers based on skill level and skill development. This enables the player to graduate their skills in an organized learning environment which follows strict skill development protocol. Each player has the option to begin at any tier they would like and advance according on their ability as our staff makes critical assessments on the player’s progression and will advise the player on his or her development progress. (Finishing a class at one Tier does not necessarily graduate the player to move to the next Tier – repetition plus correction perfects the skill)
Cost: $160 + HST
Tier 1 – A
This is the base level for shooting clinics at The Hockey Loft. This program is designed for beginners and entails the fundamentals of shooting mechanics. A player cannot shoot without a proper foundation of mechanics and technique and that is exactly what the ‘A’ shooting clinic is designed to implement. With a focus on balance, weight transfer, edge control and hand positioning the practical side of shooting will be the primary focus. As players begin to understand these mechanics the wrist shot, flip shot and back hand will be introduced and tied together with the fundamental methods. These fine details will set the player up for further success in the more advanced shooting clinics.
Tier 2 – AA
The second of three progressions builds off the fundamentals and mechanics taught in the ‘A’ level shoot clinic. These fundamentals will be put into motion in a series of drills designed to push the rudimentary skills to a new level. Also introduced at the ‘AA’ level will be puck handling. Puck handling techniques will be emphasized and key components such as blade positioning, blade angle and puck protection will be the main focus. Once again the wrist shot, flip shot and backhand will be the main focus as far as shot selection is concerned and will be tied into puck handling drills to give the player a multi-pronged attack.
Tier 3 – AAA
The third progression leads into the development of a one-timer and slap shot technique. All aspects of previous shooting clinics will be reviewed and implemented along with these new aspects of shooting. While there will be many shooting and puck handling drills which are designed to refresh and improve upon previously learned skills, the central learning focus will be slap shot and one-timer technique. Another main focus of the ‘AAA’ shooting clinic is shot accuracy. Once players have developed power and technique, the next step is to be able to place the puck in a productive area of the net. Along with accuracy specific shooting aides, the instructors will guide the player to controlling the trajectory of their shot.
February – Tuesdays – Tier 2/3 – A continuation from the January shooting clinics. With a focus on slap shots and back hands. The individuals will also be pushed in timed puck handling challenges and both skills will be tied together in a series of shooting in motion drills.
February – Thursdays – Tier 1 – Shooting and puck handling fundamentals. Individuals will go through the basics of shooting and puck handling. Stick and hand position, weight transfer as well as other technical aspects will be taught and reinforced to players. This is a great opportunity for both beginners as well as individuals who have developed some bad habits to be taught and corrected in regards to the fundamentals of shooting and puck handling.
March – Tuesdays – Tier 2/3 – A focus on back hand shooting and puck movement as well as an introduction to slap shots. This shooting clinic will emphasize moving the puck from the backhand to the forehand of the stick for purposes of shooting and passing as well as receiving a puck on the back hand of the stick and shooting the puck off the back hand. Players will also be introduced to proper slap shot technique and begin to utilize the slap shot in motion.
March – Thursdays – Tier 2 – The Thursday March clinic will be a puck handling workshop. Individuals will be put through the paces of a puck handling workout which will be based on technique and repitition. Puck handling is the glue that binds skating and shooting together. If one does not have the ability to move the puck into a productive area while skating, they will never be able to pass or shoot the puck in and effective manner. Hand positioning, weight transfer, proper posture and specific puck handling moves will be the focus of this clinic.
SAQ - Skills and Conditioning Workout
The focus of the the SAQ - Skills and Conditioning Workout is incorporating a great strength and conditioning workout into a skill development workout in The Hockey Loft’s training facility. All components of the workout are hockey oriented and designed to complement the players’ skillset.
Players will be run through a series of circuits which focus on breaking a player down physically through intense skating, medicine ball exercises and full body movements. At the same time, the player will be working through a series of skill development drills which focus on muscle memory through repetition. The proper skills training combined with muscle fatigue and repetition will engrain the proper skill technique into the player.
This workout is designed for players over the age of 12 years old who are experienced hockey players and is great for cardiovascular development, muscle development and memory as well as hockey skill development.
